East Siang Travel Guide

East Siang district, located in the state of Arunachal Pradesh is administered from the district headquarters located at Pasighat. It is majorly populated by the Adi tribe which includes a large number of Aboriginal groups and subgroups such as the Shimongs, Ashings, Karkos, Pangis, Milangs, Pasis, Minyongs, Padams, Tangmas and Boris. The Adis are related to the Astro- Mongoloid race, and are good looking, strong and dynamic.

The territory was divided from West Siang district and the East Siang district was created in 1989. After a decade, the district was further partitioned to make Upper Siang district in 1999. The district got its name from the River Siang which originates from Tibet, where it is called Tsangpo. It passes through the entire area and descents down into the plains of Assam and becomes the mighty Brahmaputra. It is famous around the world as one of the best white water rafting expeditions and attracts a regular flow of adrenalin seekers.

Festivals in East Siang are celebrated with much grandeur. The major festival of East Siang includes:

Solung festival:Most of the festivals of the state are celebrated with dance forms. Solung festival is one of the most amazing dance festivals of East Siang. Ponung dance of the Minyong group of Adis is featured on the occasion of this festival.

Mopin dance festival:Mopin dance is featured mainly by men folk and is an outline form of dance where canes are used as a prop. The dancers wear white dresses while performing the dance form. It is celebrated with great passion.


Daying Ering Wild Life Sanctuary in Auranchal Pradesh:

Situated just 13 Kms from Pasighat, the Daying Ering Wild Life Sanctuary is one of the rare sanctuaries located on an island. One has to sail through River Siang by boat to reach the destination. Fortunate few get a chance to spot a Tiger here. A variety of migratory birds like wild-ducks, cranes, and storks can be seen during the month of September to February

Kekar Monying in Auranchal Pradesh
