West Siang, located in the state of Arunachal Pradesh is an administrative district in the state. It is majorly populated by the Adi tribe which includes a large number of Aboriginal groups and subgroups such as the Shimongs, Milangs, Pasis, Karkos, Pangis, Minyongs, Padams, Ashings, Tangmas and Boris. The Adis are related to the Astro- Mongoloid race, and are good looking, strong and dynamic.

The territory was moved from West Siang district to East Siang district in 1989. After a decade, the district was partitioned to make Upper Siang district in 1999. The district got its name from the River Siang which originates from Tibet, where it is called Tsangpo. It passes through the entire area and descents down into the plains of Assam and becomes Brahmaputra.

Festivals in West Siang are celebrated with much grandeur. The major festivals of West Siang include:

Solung festival: Most of the festivals of the state are celebrated with dance forms. Solung festival is one of the most amazing dance festivals of West Siang. Ponung dance of the Minyong group of Adis is featured on the occasion of this festival.

Mopin dance festival: Mopin dance is featured mainly by men folk and is an outline form of dance where canes are used as a prop. The dancers wear white dresses while performing the dance form. It is celebrated with great passion.

Tourism in West Siang District consists of numerous tourist destinations. West Siang District is rich in wildlife. The rare mammals such as Mishmi takin, Snow leopard, Red panda and Musk deer occurs while among birds there is the rare Blyth's Tragopan. A flying squirrel, new to science has been recently discovered from this district. It has been named as Mechuka Giant Flying Squirrel Petaurista mechukaensis. In the year 1991, West Siang district became the abode to the Kane Wildlife Sanctuary. Kane Wildlife Sanctuary has an area of 55 square kilometres.

The nearest Domestic Airport is Chabua Airport, Dibrugarh, roughly five and half hour drive from the district headquarters. It is well connected to many major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Dimapur and Hyderabad through several Airlines such as Air India, Indigo and Jet Airways.

The nearest Railway Station is Murkongselek Railway Station which is connected to all the major cities of Arunachal Pradesh and 131 Kms from the city.

The district headquarters of West Siang district, Along is 95 Kms from Pasighat, 167 Kms from Roing, 240 Kms from North Lakhimpur, 303 Kms from Itanagar,446 Kms from Tezpur, 486 Kms from Seppa and is connected through Arunachal Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and some private travel services.
